The table is published by the Government's Department for Children, families and Schools and measures how much every school in the country has improved its pupils' performances - literally how much it has "added value" to its pupils.

The school inspection body, OFSTED, says that this Government league table is the best measure of a school's educational quality, because it shows which schools make a difference to their pupils' performances by teaching standards, as opposed to those who simply select the brightest pupils for admission.

Academic success is only one part of the jigsaw and we take just as much pride, pleasure and satisfaction from everything we achieve outside the classroom, particularly in our performing Arts programme which we believe is the best in the country
